The ‘Inner Wall’ with outer Consequences.
You have hit a Wall. How to Invent, back from the future, and open your ‘Berlin Wall’ ( see below) and create your dream legacy…. then Do It - Act as If.
Many clients, experience tremendous growth and advancement and then seem to reach a plateau, or they age a little and begin to fear that their empire or their fame is starting to lessen or they have left dear ones behind and it is taking more and more energy to manage and sustain. It’s as if they have hit a wall, an inner wall with outer consequences.
Building on my study of Walt Disney’s management of creativity for Disney University and developing training for senior and middle managers in the years after Walt’s death, and with the influx of the Paramount culture into the Disney family culture, I produced a formula including Disney’s Storyboarding and more. I used this approach with the Swiss agricultural division of a global pharmaceutical company that wanted to introduce a new product into Russia. The last time, it had taken 12 years. They wanted to do it in 3. Taking the 20 executives, whose ancestors had fought each other over centuries, I and my colleague helped them become a cohesive team. We had them create a model of a New Russia, (before Glasnost and Perestroika), and identify what stopped them from moving forward. The symbol they chose was ‘The Berlin Wall’. They developed strategies and actions for The New Russia, and each of the 20 did private work to clear their inner walls. The Russians responded positively. 3 years to the day from when they started the project on November 9, 1986, the Berlin Wall Fell, and they ‘rode’ proudly into Russia with their product. Not good luck, not good planning, but Inventing the Future and Harnessing the Past.
My colleague on this project had a fear of horses, he had been thrown off one at age 9. Together we uncovered his dream to teach his 9-year-old son to ride. He created a larger dream of then riding across Greenland, with a group, the following summer. Working back from the future, a year out, he created steps, which included them taking riding lessons together and him finding and releasing the energy of his inner trauma. He rode across Greenland, having first Acted as if it had happened. He introduced me to Dr. Eileen Watkins Seymour DSC HC, the founder of the RAPSI approach, who later became my life partner.
